Rugby Player Insurance – World Rugby Rules
World Rugby 23.1.3 Regulation states “If the Primary Employer of the Player is not a Rugby Body or Club then the Player shall be responsible for having in place the appropriate financial arrangements or insurance to cover the Player whilst participating in the Game at any level and at all times other than when the Player is on International Duty.”
We strongly recommend that all players have some form of medical insurance to cover them for the tournament. Most general travel insurances do not cover playing rugby – make sure you check your policy.
We have been able to negotiate with Alan Sutherland from Thaiexpatclub a particularly good deal with specific rugby coverage. There are 2 choices for insurance – (Player’s choice)
- Escort Plus: 1M THB cover for medical expenses incurred from an accident for 1,390 THB or
- Escort: 500k THB cover for medical expenses incurred from an accident for 895 THB
Players will be sent by email individual policies and their details will be held centrally on the insurance Company (Safety Insurance and NZI) database for reference by the insurance provider and hospital if necessary. Note that both options include ambulance from the pitch (up to 2,000 thb), accidental death, disability, assistance with repatriation etc.
